Phil Jones has opened up about the moment he realised his Manchester United career was over after battling injuries.
The retired defender spent 12 years at Old Trafford between 2011 and 2023 before officially retiring in August.

Jones has revealed he hopes to start anew under Erik ten Hag when the Dutchman takes over ahead of the 2022-23 season.
He admitted he spent the holiday period with the need to prepare for pre-season in mind. But found during the first session he was unable to pass with his right foot.
Phil Jones said:
“I’m really excited that Erik ten Hag has come in, to start again. You step out on the pitch with the kit and the boots again.”
“I feel a little bit in my knee again, but I think it will go away at some point. It won’t be like this forever.”
“We had a circuit around the pitch. You play with the ball, kick it into the net and jog around the cones. It was a bit of a warm-up.”
“I couldn’t cross with my right foot. I couldn’t do it. It was just a soft cross. At that moment, I wanted the earth to swallow me up.”
“I thought to myself, ‘This manager has come in and I can’t do a 20-minute session. I’ve got through this session by crossing the ball off the outside of my left foot instead.’
“I would turn around or sprint and I would feel it and I was like, I can’t do it anymore. During the water break, I went into the physio and said. ‘This is my last training session.’ And to this day, it’s really my last training session.”
